AT&T Network on Demand: Adjusting Port and EVC Bandwidth

With AT&T Network on Demand, you can optimize your network configuration so you’ll get the bandwidth you need without paying for capacity you don’t. In this video, we’ll show you how port and circuit bandwidth settings work together, so you can make changes with ease. In this video, we'll show you how port and circuit bandwidth settings work together, so you can make changes with ease. We'll look at three network configuration choices that affect available bandwidth: The port interface type for each port The committed information rate, or CIR, for each port, also called port bandwidth, and The CIR for each Ethernet Virtual Connection, or EVC—also called EVC bandwidth. Let’s start with the port interface type, which you select when you add a port. The port interface type determines the maximum bandwidth for the port. For example, one port interface type may support up to 100 megabits per second; another, up to 1 gigabit per second. Changing the port interface type requires a disconnect and service interruption, so the size you select should meet your long-term requirements. Now let's look at bandwidth settings you can adjust quickly in AT&T Business Center. First is the port bandwidth. You can adjust the port bandwidth up to the maximum rate supported by the port interface type. For example, if the port interface supports up to 100 megabits per second, then the port bandwidth can be up to 100 megabits per second. There is a monthly charge that varies with your bandwidth setting. You can choose the lowest setting that meets your needs. Two or more ports are connected by an Ethernet Virtual Connection, or EVC. You can adjust the EVC bandwidth, but it cannot exceed the port bandwidth. These limits are important to remember when you want to change the port or EVC bandwidth. For example, let's say both the port and the EVC bandwidth are set to 20 megabits per second. The EVC CIR cannot exceed the port CIR, so if you want to increase the EVC bandwidth... ...you must first increase the port bandwidth. Then you can increase the EVC bandwidth. Ready to dial the bandwidth back down? First, decrease the EVC bandwidth... And then decrease the port bandwidth. To learn more about port and EVC settings, watch the video "Manage Your Ethernet Service with Network on Demand." Thank you for learning more about Network on Demand. And thank you for choosing AT&T.
