New updated mobile internet overview for 2018! Internet access is almost as essential as water, power and sewer access for RVers and cruisers, some would even say it's more essential. Internet is an amenity that is vital in keeping in touch with loved ones, networking with new friends, travel routing, remote banking, entertainment and even running businesses while being mobile. This 16--minute video and our overview article (www.mobileinternetinfo.com/overview - kept up to date) is a quick overview of the options. From cellular, public WiFi, satellite and signal enhancing. This is our current overview video, created in March 2018. Our book - The Mobile Internet Handbook - goes into much further detail on each of these options, as well as a whole lot more. The options for keeping online while traveling the US are substantially different than those available while living in a fixed location. It is not going to be anywhere near as easy as just "plugging in" like you might have once done in your fixed home. On the road, you will be battling: Intermittent and variable connections. Varying speeds – from frustratingly slow to blazing fast. Bandwidth cap limitations on how much data you can use. Each individual solution has its pros and cons, and will be more ideal in some locations than in others. And there are no easy universal answers. Your ideal setup is going to be very personalized and dependent upon several factors including: How important is the internet to you? How much internet data do you need? How many devices do you need to keep online? What is your style of travel? What plans and devices do you have now? Your budget? ------------------------------------------ For further information: Mobile Internet Resource Center: http://www.mobileinternetinfo.com More about the book: http://www.mobileinternetinfo.com/book Overview Article: http://www.mobileinternetinfo.com/overview Cellular Carrier Guide: http://www.mobileinternetinfo.com/four-... Sept 2017 Update: This plan has been retired and is no longer available. The AT&T Connected Car $20/month unlimited data plan is all the rage. A stand alone plan that is really just twenty bucks a month (plus taxes and fees), although subject to network management after 22GB of usage in a month (which just means you MIGHT be slowed down when on congested towers) Available on the ZTE Mobley device, meant to plug into your vehicle's OBD2 port for vehicle diagnostics, this device also creates a WiFi hotspot. In this video, we go over the physical hardware and the firmware user interface - with some tips and tricks to using the Mobley in an always powered on state (without needing a vehicle!), and even tethering it into a mobile router. This is one of the worst (read: most dangerous to your health) car details I've ever worked on. The interior was packed with dead mice and the smell of bacteria and mold was intense. Watch the step by step process to bring this Eagle Talon back to a condition that would allow mechanics to safely repair the vehicle prior to it being exported to the Caribbean. Our hands on report of AT&T's new Connected Car OBD-II device - the Harman Spark. It was released earlier this month with a $30/month unlimited data plan.
We confirm that the Spark will not function like the Mobley does as an internet source - it does require being in a vehicle with the ignition on.
